CHIANG MAI, March 16 (TNA) – Giant firecrackers were thrown at a branch of Thailand's largest commercial bank and a home belonging to the father-in-law of a key figure of a coalition party in the northern province of Chiang Mai, but there were no casualties.

Fragments of giant firecrackers were found at an ATM booth of the Bangkok Bank's  Changpuek branch, which was undamaged.

In a similar attack, giant firecrackers were thrown into the home of a key figure of Bhumjaithai Party leader Newin Chidchob’s father-in-law, which is also the office of a Chiang Mai  Construction company. The explosion caused a crack in the office’s door.

Police believed that the incidents were aimed to cause disturbance in Chiang Mai.

Meanwhile, in Bangkok early Tuesday, an unidentified attacker fired an M-79 grenade at the home of a businessman near the home of the Supreme Administrative Court president.

No one was wounded in the incident in the capital's Soi Lad Prao 23 at around 3am Tuesday. The roof and ceiling of the house was damaged.

The owner of the house, Worasit Kiartthawianun, an import and export businessman said he had no conflict with anyone, but his home is located about 20 metres from the home of Supreme Administrative Court president Akrathorn Chularat.

Pol. Maj-Gen. Saroj Promcharoen, commander of Police Metropolitan Division 2, said that the grenade attack may not be linked to Mr  Akrathorn as his home is in Soi 25 but the house where the incident took place was in Soi 23.

Meanwhile, two soldiers wounded Monday in a grenade attack at the first Infantry Regiment on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road are in stable condition.

The attending doctors said they remained hospitalised for treatment about a week to prevent infection of their wounds. (TNA)
